Miss Jane Repurposes

*

Like a sober little girl making mud pies,3 changeling
Jane worked on Self—though not alone.
All the old ladies wanted to teach her something.4

To starch, to fry, to pray for rain or no... Everything
Grist for the gossip phone.
Like a sober little girl making mud pies, changeling

Jane, as bidden and foretold, set about examining
Innards, outards: yearning, flesh tone.
All the old ladies wanted to teach her something.

The point of obedience training?
The point of throwing in for a Self on loan?
Like a sober little girl making mud pies, changeling

Jane missed accident, happenstance, ranging
The woods for locust and pinecones.
All the old ladies wanted to teach her something.

Old knowledge seeping
On, to, through Miss Jane, supine or prone.
Like a sober little girl making mud pies, their changeling.
All the old ladies wanted to teach her something.
