H. L. Hix
Poem Composed of Statements Made by George W. Bush in July 2002

There is no wealth without character.
As we prepare our military
the important thing is to restore
confidence to the economy.

To be a patriotic American
we must love our neighbor.
These people,...they're poor, and they're downtrodden.
There is no wealth without character.

Help a neighbor in need. I do.
To be a patriotic American
we take lives when we have to.
We worry about weapons of mass destruction.

We take lives when we have to.
We're going to chase them down one by one,
that's what we're going to do,
is to hunt these cold-blooded killers down.

We're a compassionate nation,
and so we're on the hunt.
We're going to chase them down one by one
so long as I'm the President.

Out of the evil...will come great good
because I'm the President.
Terrorism is fueled by boundless hatred.
We will offer a fabulous product.

We value life; the enemy hates life.
That's what we're going to do,
defend civilization itself.
This isn't a — the type of war we're all used to.

We do what we do for peace.
It's just a different type of war.
Let me tell you what I think the bill says:
there is no wealth without character.

We need men and women...who know the difference
between ambition and destructive greed.
I think that's an important nuance.
Out of the evil...will come great good.

We still feel like we're under attack.
The war goes on. We're making progress.
This economy is coming back.
We do what we do for peace.

And so we're on the hunt:
the largest increase in our defense spending
since Ronald Reagan was the President,
to hold people accountable for killing.

We're a compassionate nation,
and the results are better as a result.
You know what's going to happen?
So long as I'm the President

the world will be safer and more peaceful.
You can imagine what that is like,
trying to hold somebody accountable.
We still feel like we're under attack.

I do firmly believe...a regime change,
that's what we're going to do.
Not because we seek revenge:
we owe it to history, we owe it to

our children and our grandchildren
to hold somebody accountable,
to hunt these cold-blooded killers down.
It's a great country, because we're great people.

We're prepared for any enemy.
We're not going to worry about process.
The important thing is...the economy.
We do what we do for peace.
